802.15.3 is a WPAN standard that operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency and can coexist with 802.11b without incident. 802.15.3 supports speeds up to 55 Mbps and purportedly will connect up to 245 wireless devices in an ad hoc fashion. These devices will be able to sense and connect to the network without facilitation from a user. Somewhat analogous to the Wi-Fi Alliance, the WiMedia alliance is promoting 802.15.3 and hopes to do for 802.15.3 what Wi-Fi has done for 802.11x.
