Part IV: Basic Editing

Chapter List

Chapter 9: Adjusting Color and Tone
Chapter 10: Creating Composite Images
Chapter 11: Using Filters

In this part . . .

After scanning a photograph and opening it in Photoshop, you may discover (to your shock) that the scanned image doesn’t look anything like the original photo. That’s where color correction comes in. Many images require color correction before they are perfect. In a photographic darkroom, color correction used to be a laborious and time consuming process, but Photoshop offers many simple, sublime ways to correct the color in your images. Chapter 9 explains how to use the color correction features that Photoshop has to offer.

Copying and cloning are among the most powerful image manipulation techniques available in Photoshop. Chapter 10 shows you how to effectively copy and paste image selections within the same image or into another image. You’ll find out how to duplicate an image to keep the original safe if you want to try out a new technique. And, you’ll discover the fun of creating clones, using the Clone Stamp tool, and covering everything with custom patterns using the Pattern Stamp tool. From there, you’ll use the Patch tool to quickly fix larger flaws in an image and use the Healing Brush tool to clone areas while simultaneously blending color and texture.

One of the fastest ways to transform a mundane original into a spectacular Photoshop image is to use one of almost 100 Photoshop filters (you can even apply more than one filter if you wish). Chapter 11 explains the basics of how filters work and shows you how to use the new Photoshop cs Filter Gallery.
