IMP provides a very good Web-based interface to your electronic mail. It is similar in effect to Microsoft's HotMail, or Netscape's WebMail (see Figure 6.1). With IMP, you can set up an intraoffice, interoffice, or Internet mail system that will work with almost any operating system. The only requirement is a Web browser that can handle JavaScript, tables, and cookies. The list of operating systems that have such Web browsers includes Microsoft Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 3.5, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Macintosh (System 8 or later has Internet Explorer as its standard browser), Linux, Solaris, BSD, and more.

IMP is fun! The basic IMP package provides a very pleasant screen that is easy to use. The satisfaction of seeing it work the first time is hard to beat. Let's get started.
