4.8. What are transactional systems?Transactional systems or transactional applications are names for enterprise applications that emphasize the way these applications record information about transactions and are updated through discrete transactions. Sometimes transactions refer to business transactions, such as taking an order, generating an invoice, and accepting payment. Transactions also include important events such as hiring an employee and recording the terms of a contract in a system. When we speak about enterprise applications as transactional systems, we are emphasizing their role in keeping track of business activity represented as changes to databases in a consistent manner. |
