In some ways, ADO.NET is just another group of types in the .NET Framework class library. It's an important part of this library, however, one that will be used by a large percentage of .NET developers. All of ADO.NET's types are built on the CLR and the foundation types it defines, all can be accessed from any CLR-based language, and all are contained within the library's consistent namespace hierarchy. Yet despite their visibility, the types that comprise ADO.NET are really just more soldiers in the army of support provided by the .NET Framework class library.
