Adding Images and Pages

You can add individual images to a web journal manually or use automated functions to add images and pages. We'll start by adding images manually to the main index page of the journal, which will showcase one image from each of the three locations. Then we'll add additional linked pages to the journal.

1.

Drag DSC_0976 from the Browser to the Webpage Editor preview area, releasing the mouse button when a green line appears across the center of the area.

The image appears below the YOUR SITE TITLE text.

2.

Position the cursor over the image in the preview area. Notice the buttons that provide different functions.

3.

Drag Jackson Hole 11 of 23 from the Browser to the preview area, releasing the mouse button when a green line appears below the DSC_0976 image.

This creates a new photo box, which holds an image. A photo box is simply a container for an image or a group of images. You can also drag an image on top of an existing image to replace it, or drop an image to the right or left of an image to add to an existing row of images.

4.

Drag SoBe_2005 48 of 50 below the second image.

The three images appear in the web preview area in a column. In the Browser, the added images are selected and tagged with a small 1 in the upper right corner. This indicates the number of times the image is used on the siteso far, just once.

Now that you've manually added images to the title page, let's add three pages to the web journalone for each location.

5.

Click the Show Unplaced Images button, then select all of the images in the Browser.

You will use the selected images to automatically create additional pages, sorted by city.

6.

Choose New Page For Each City from the Page Action pop-up menu at the left side of the Webpage Editor, below the Detail Images panel.

Aperture adds three pages to the web journal, one for each city identified in the City metadata field in our Five Star Locations Smart Album. The pages appear with image thumbnails in the Journal Pages panel. The Colonia page appears in the preview area because it's first alphabetically, and Aperture adds page numbers to the top of the pages to allow navigation.
