Organizing the Projects Panel Using Favorites

As your Aperture Library grows to include more projects and folders, the Projects panel can become crowded and it can be hard to find the items you need for any given work session. For example, our Library contains (among other items) a manual album, a Smart Album, and the Tibet project. But all we need to create our web journal album is the Travel folder and the Five Star Locations Smart Album, so let's make them easier to access by making them "favorites."

Note

This lesson picks up where Lesson 4 left off, so there are no media or lesson files to import.

1.

Open Aperture if it's not already open.

2.

Press Command-Option-S to make sure you're in the Standard layout.

3.

Select the Travel folder in the Projects panel and then click the disclosure triangle to view its contents.

4.

Choose Add To Favorites from the Project Action pop-up menu. This sets the Travel folder as a favorite.

5.

Choose Show Favorites from the Projects pop-up menu at the top of the Projects panel.

The Projects panel now displays only folders, projects, and albums that you have designated as favoritesin this case, the Travel folder. The projects and Smart Album inside the Travel folder do not appear because we haven't designated them as favorites. You need to select each individual item that you want to designate as a favorite.

Note

The Projects panel always shows the Library and the default Library Smart Albums.

6.

Choose Show All from the Projects pop-up menu to show all of the Library contents in the panel again.

7.

Select the Five Star Locations Smart Album and choose Add To Favorites from the Project Action pop-up menu.

8.

Choose Show Favorites from the Projects pop-up menu to show only your favorites.

9.

Click the Library's disclosure triangle to hide its default Smart Albums.

Using favorites is an excellent way to control what you are viewing in the Projects panel as the number of organizational elements in the panel increases.
