Vault

NetBackup 4.5 feature that replaces bpVault, is integrated with NetBackup, and is configured with GUIs.

VOLSER

Volume serial number, otherwise known as the media ID, barcode label, or tape ID.

volume

Media Manager volumes are logical units of data storage or cleaning capability on media that have been assigned media IDs and other attributes, which are recorded in the Media Manager volume database.

volume configuration

Refers to configuration information that is stored in the Media Manager volume database.

volume database

An internal database where Media Manager keeps information about volumes, such as number of mounts and density. All Media Manager hosts have a volume database. However, the database is empty unless the host is designated as a volume database host.

volume database host

The Media Manager (usually the NetBackup master) host that contains information about the volumes that Media Manager uses in a device.

volume database host (device allocation host)

The host that is defined as the volume database who is also the device allocation host in an SSO environment.

volume group

A logical representation of physical pieces of media that share a common residence (standalone or robotic).

volume pool

A set of volumes that are configured within Media Manager to be used by a single application and are protected from access by other applications and users.
