DVD Player

Use the DVD Player application to watch DVD video discs on your Mac, whether they be from Hollywood or from your own SuperDrive via iDVD.

If you know how to use a DVD remote, you already know how to use DVD Player, because the application is controlled with an onscreen remote. It is a little more elaborate than the onscreen remote in iDVD, and better looking, too. Take a look at the horizontal, default version of it in Figure 20-42. There is also a vertically oriented remote if you so prefer.

When you insert a DVD video disc, DVD player will automatically launch. Pick the size of the image from the Video menu; most times you may prefer to choose “Enter Full Screen” — it looks best. To enter or exit full screen, press z+0 (zero).

While watching the DVD, the remote will disappear about five seconds after the cursor last touches it; to see it again, move your mouse. Should you wish to access the DVD menu, just use the mouse to bring your cursor close to the top of the screen, and it will appear.

Commands entered on the onscreen remote appear for confirmation in green in the upper-left corner of the screen.
