The process of ensuring that data is accurately entered into a form for a data list.



default

The assumed option, behavior, or formatting that remains in effect unless you specify otherwise.



demote

To indent a line of text more than the previous line, indicating a lower level of importance.



dialog box

An information box that appears during the installation or use of an application and requires input from the user.



docked toolbar

A toolbar that is attached to one of the four sides of an application window.



document

A file you create with a program; a document can be saved with a unique filename by which it can be retrieved.



document map

A vertical display of the headings in a Word document. You can click an entry to move quickly to that part of the document.



document window

The window that controls the individual documents in an application window.



download

To transfer a file from the Internet to your computer from a Web page or an email attachment.



drag-and-drop

To move an object (an icon, a selection of text, a cell in an Excel worksheet, and so on) by selecting it, dragging it to another location, and then releasing the mouse button.



drop-down list

A list of choices presented when you click the arrow to the right of a field in a dialog box.
