About the Authors


Chris Lewis has more than 18 years of experience in networking, with enterprises, a service provider, and Cisco. He is employed as a technical projects systems engineer in the Cisco Worldwide Service Provider Technical Operations group. He wrote Cisco TCP/IP Routing (McGraw Hill, 1997) and Cisco Switched Internetworks (1999). He was a contributing editor to Network Computing from 1994 to 1996.

Steve Pickavance has more than 14 years of experience in designing, building, and deploying systems, solutions, and IP and network services in the enterprise. Steve was the lead architect for the Cisco Systems EMEA IT Network, where he has led the Cisco adoption of IP VPNs within Cisco. He helped identify opportunities for IP VPN services, advising Cisco customers based on the experience of the Cisco IT network, in both the enterprise and service provider arenas. Today, Steve works in the Cisco Advisory Services EMEA consulting practice where he is an enterprise architect working with its largest customers on their service-oriented network architectures.

About the Contributing Authors

Monique Morrow, CCIE No. 1711, is a distinguished consulting engineer at Cisco Systems, Inc. She has more than 20 years of experience in IP internetworking, including design, implementation of complex customer projects, and service development for service providers. She cowrote Designing IP-Based Services: Solutions for Vendors and Service Providers (Morgan-Kaufmann, 2002) and MPLS VPN Security (Cisco Press, 2005). She is vice chair of the newly formed industry forum IPSphere Forum. She is active in both the IETF and ITU-T SG 13, with a focus on OAM. She has a master's degree in telecommunications management and an MBA.

John Monaghan is a technical leader in the Cisco Network Management Technology Group. He specializes in the design and specification of network management systems for MPLS networks.

Craig Huegen, CCIE No. 2100, has more than ten years of experience in designing, building, and operating IP-based communications networks for enterprises and small network service providers. For the last six years, he has served as chief network architect for the Cisco Systems global network in the Cisco Information Technology department, delivering significant employee productivity increases through the development of the Cisco global infrastructure.

Tim Szigeti, CCIE No. 9794, has specialized in QoS technologies since 1998. He helps define and drive strategic QoS solutions across Cisco technology groups while working with many Fortune 500 companies, providing QoS design expertise.
