Food for Thought

Now that you have some idea of what it may cost to build your Web presence, take a moment to think about the costs and how you can minimize them. Use these questions to get started. If you'd like to share your thoughts with other readers or see what other readers have to say, visit the book's companion Web site, http://www.smallbusinessonweb.com/.

  • Based on the list of skills and knowledge required to design and build a Web site, do you have what it takes? Could you be your company's Web designer?

  • If you or another company employee were busy building a Web site instead of doing your usual job, what would the impact on your company be?

  • Go back to your answers to the questions at the end of Chapter 2 and think about the kind of Web site you want to build. Who do you think would be the best and most cost-effective choice for designing, building, and maintaining that site for you: you, an in-house Web designer, or a Web consultant? And why?

  • In your situation, do you think it's worth the extra cost to have your own domain name ? Why?
