Creating Additional Web Graphics

You'll need to create two more graphical elements to use on your web page, and you'll use Illustrator to create them. If it isn't already open, launch Illustrator. You'll create a text header as well as an image of a sunflower that you'll use to create a Favorite Icon (favicon) for your website. A favicon is a little graphic that appears in the URL address bar of a browser when you navigate to a website.

Create a Text Header

Create a new RGB file (the size of the file doesn't matter), and turn on Pixel Preview. Using the Type tool, enter the words Relax. Revive. Refresh. Set the text to 18-point Adobe Caslon Pro Italic and turn on optical kerning (see Figure 16.23).

Save the file as a native Illustrator file (.AI), into the Web-Data\SmartObjects folder in your Version Cue project.

Prepare the Favicon

Next, you want to use the image of a sunflower that you will use to create a favicon to appear in the URL bar of a web browser. Open the Sunflowers logo and delete everything in the file except for the sunflower on the far right.

Favicons are always square in shape, so you'll need to draw a square to ensure that the icon looks correct when displayed. Select the Rectangle tool and create a square with sides of 1.5 inches. Give the square a white fill and no stroke, and position it over the center of the sunflower icon. Then send the square to the back of the stacking order (see Figure 16.24).

Save the document as a native Illustrator file (.AI) into the Web-Data\SmartObjects folder in your Version Cue project. You're done with Illustrator for now, so feel free to quit the application at this point.
