Designing the Cover

Switch back to InDesign, and you'll begin designing the brochure, starting with the cover. Press Command+D (Ctrl+D) and place the dock and ocean image on the cover panel (see Figure 13.16). Delete the label you made earlier to identify the cover, and then adjust the picture frame and scale the image to fit within the cover (see Figure 13.17). Remember to allow the image to bleed off the page.

Add the Text and the Logo

Next, you'll add the text headline and logo to the cover. Create a text frame and type the words Relax. Revive. Refresh., pressing Return after the words Relax and Revive. Set the text to Adobe Caslon Pro Italic, 32 point on 80-point leading, with optical kerning and set the paragraphs to Align Right (see Figure 13.18). To make the text stand out more, add a drop shadow by using the Selection tool to select the text frame, and choose Object, Drop Shadow. Specify 40% for Opacity, .03 inches for the X and Y offsets, and .04 for Blur (see Figure 13.19). Position the text on top of the white dock (see Figure 13.20).

Now you'll place the logo onto the cover. Press Command+D (Ctrl+D) to place the Sunflowers logo. Scale the logo to 50% and position it at the top of the cover (see Figure 13.21). Switch to High Quality Display so that you can better see what you're doing.

While you're still on this page of the document in InDesign, complete the back cover by placing the logo and adding the contact information. (It's easier to copy this information from the letterhead you created in the preceding chapter.) Page 2 (the inside flap) will remain blank because the company will use it to print specific promotions that are subject to change throughout the year (see Figure 13.22). Delete the panel placeholders and save the file.
