Troubleshooting Lab


In this lab, you will work within Device Manager to familiarize yourself with the devices that are attached to your own computer. Open Device Manager by following these steps:

  1. Log on to Windows XP using an account with administrator privileges.

  2. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

  3. In Control Panel, select Performance And Maintenance.

  4. In the Performance And Maintenance window, select System.

  5. On the Hardware tab, select Device Manager.

Using Device Manager, answer the following questions about your own computer.

  1. What is the issue date and version of the drivers used for your mouse?

  2. Which of the following types of ports does your computer have installed: serial, parallel, FireWire, USB. How are these ports listed in Device Manager?

  3. How is your printer port configured to manage interrupts?
