Monitoring your network is crucial in spotting problems before they grow too large. This chapter described the counters that are important in measuring the four primary subsystems of your Windows 2000 system: the disks, memory, network, and processor. It also examined the more important counters for the SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4 protocols, as well as the OWA and Content Indexing activities. We want to emphasize that regular monitoring of your Exchange 2000 servers will help you detect when something is about to go wrong and can give you some warning so that you can fix a problem before it occurs. Use the information in this chapter to devise a regular monitoring strategy for your system.
