Summary

The JMS messaging paradigm is eary to learn and is a powerful tool . It offers the necessary system-level support for disconnected operation of mobile devices. This chapter described issues facing the developer of mobile applications, and how mobile messaging addresses those issues. Also, we have sketched the archiechture and the main features of a JMS solution for wireless information services.

The main conclusion is that wireless applications such as financial data feeds, chat systems, buddy lists, etc. consist scalable server infrastructure (the data center) servicing large number of mobile devices. We propose to deploy J2EE application server technology at the data center, J2ME technology on the mobile device, and to use a wireless-enabled JMS middleware as the bridge between the mobile world and the data centeres.
