Moving from Slide to Slide

As you create and edit a slide show, you'll often need to move quickly from one slide to another. PowerPoint makes it easy to do this, using either the mouse or the keyboard. The different methods for moving to another slide in the Normal view include the following:

  • Click the outline or thumbnail slide to the left of the slide editing screen. PowerPoint immediately jumps to that slide.

  • Using the scrollbar at the right of the slide editing screen, click the scroll box to display which slide you're on and how many slides are in the slide show. Drag the scroll box up or down, and PowerPoint tells you which slide you'll be at when you release the mouse button.

  • At the bottom of the scrollbar are an up double-pointed arrow and a down double-pointed arrow. Click the up arrow to move up one slide, and the down arrow to move down one slide.

  • On the keyboard, press Page Up to go up one slide or Page Down to go down one slide.

In the Slide Sorter view, simply scroll up or down and then double-click the slide you want to go to, and PowerPoint returns to the Normal view for that slide.

In either view Normal or Slide Sorter you can press Ctrl+End to go to the end of the slide show or Ctrl+Home to go to the beginning.

If you want to preview only the slide you're working on, from the current slide, click the Slide Show button on the Views toolbar at the lower left of the screen and then press Esc to return to your editing.
