Summary

Even for experienced Exchange administrators, the new management interfaces can be a bit intimidating. It helps to know where to find the objects you need and the tasks that you most frequently perform.

In this chapter we reviewed where the configuration data is stored for Exchange server; this is a special partition of the Active Directory called the configuration partition. We also looked at the different work centers of the Exchange Management Console and the types of tasks that can be performed in each.

In the Organization Configuration work center, you perform configuration tasks that affect the entire organization. These objects found in the Organization Configuration work center have the potential to affect every server and mail recipient in the entire Exchange organization.

In the Server Configuration work center you can perform tasks that affect specific Exchange servers and server roles. Finally, the Recipient Configuration work center allows you to manage mail-enabled recipients (users, groups, contacts).
