Welcome to Creative Projects with Logic Audio . Two questions:

1. Do you want to learn the basics of composition and arranging?

2. Do you also want to learn how to sequence, record and mix your compositions effectively within Logic Audio?

If your answer to those questions is yes, this book will help you do both in a practical and enjoyable way. Nothing stuffy here!

There's an old proverb: I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand .

That's the essence of this book. Doing the projects and comparing your results along the way to the examples on the CD will provide you with a valuable insight into the creative process. What's more, you will be learning how to use Logic Audio at the same time. Do and you will understand.

Two things are dealt with here:

1. The creative process. Conceiving the ideas and developing them.

2. The production process. Capturing, shaping and manipulating those ideas within Logic Audio.

Both elements overlap and this book could just as easily have been titled Composing and Arranging with Logic Audio . There's no doubt that much of today's music is produced this way. The most obvious use is in the pop, techno and dance genres. However, this is not the only use. Logic Audio and similar music software production programs are used to record music for computer games , TV soundtracks , advertising jingles, radio drama and multimedia presentations to name just a few. This book is aimed at helping musicians and students interested in writing for those kind of markets with the composition process how to get the ideas in the first place and devel op, record and mix them into a satisfying whole. Everything, the sequenc ing, the audio recording, the effects, the dynamic processing and the mixing, is done within Logic itself. Of course you do not have to actually do the projects if you don't want to. The text can be followed and a great deal learned by just loading and examining the example files.
