Juniper.net

The Juniper Networks Web site (www.juniper.net) is a central repository for company information and technical support solutions. It provides solutions-oriented and technology literature, including technical documentation, application notes, interoperability test papers, white papers, and technology notes. Also on the Juniper.net Web site are sales contacts, sales programs, and new and noteworthy educational and training course information. Software downloads are available to customers with annual service agreements. You can also find the Case Manager, a resource for creating, tracking, and editing support cases.

Technical Documentation

Current Juniper Networks technical documentation is available on www.juniper.net. The JUNOS Internet software guides and references, and JUNOScript API guides and references are available in HTML and PDF formats. Enterprise MIBs are also available in a downloadable text format. Hardware guides for all Juniper Networks hardware platforms, including the M-series and T-series routers, and for all physical interface cards (PICs) are also available.

Most Juniper Networks documentation is also available in the ToGo document format, which can be read by devices running the Palm OS, and in Microsoft Reader eBook format.

The general public can purchase official Juniper Network print documentation from Vervante.com. Individual titles and complete sets can be ordered in any quantity and shipped around the world. Juniper.net has direct links to this print-on-demand service.

JUNOScript API Software Download

The JUNOScript application programming interface (API) is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) application that Juniper Networks routers use to exchange information with client applications. XML is a metalanguage for defining how to mark the organizational structures and individual elements in a data set or document with tags that describe the function of the structures and elements.

Juniper.net provides a set of Perl modules whose external interface, JUNOS::Device, helps in the development of custom Perl applications for configuring and monitoring routers. JUNOS::Device provides an object interface that client applications can use to communicate with the JUNOScript server on a router. The JUNOScript server is bundled with the standard JUNOS Internet software in JUNOS Releases 4.3 and later.

Accompanying the JUNOS::Device module are several sample Perl scripts that illustrate how to use the module to perform various functions, including requesting status information and parsing the JUNOScript server's response, configuring a router, and converting JUNOScript data for storage in and retrieval from a relational database. Readme files on Juniper.net provide instructions about installing the latest JUNOScript Perl module, sample scripts, and required Perl modules.

Other packages available on Juniper.net contain the XML document type definitions (DTDs) for JUNOScript operational responses. Applications can validate XML data returned by the JUNOScript API using these DTDs.

Case Manager

The Case Manager is a support tool that allows customers and partners to open noncritical support cases and to view and edit all technical support cases on Juniper.net. The Web service provides an alternative method of monitoring cases other than calling a support engineer. The service is exclusively offered to customers and partners with service agreements.

For critical cases that need immediate attention, call the Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-314-JTAC (Canada and USA) or 408-745-2121 (outside of USA).

A username and password are provided when you purchase a service agreement. Further password assistance is available on Juniper.net. You can query your account information by case ID and condition (open, closed, all). Each function in the Case Manager has an associated help screen. The process can be monitored at the user 's discretion.
