Typographical Conventions

The typographical conventions used throughout are fairly simple. In text, keywords and identifiers from case-insensitive languages such as SQL and HTML, are written in uppercase throughout. We might say, for example, that a query in SQL is performed using a SELECT statement. Keywords and identifiers from case-sensitive languages such as Java and XML are written using a code font. We might say, for example, that in JDBC, a query is performed using a PreparedStatement object. Code examples and examples to be typed at an interactive prompt (command prompt or sqlplus prompt) are set apart from the text and are also written in code font.
