Publishing a Web Site

When you publish a publication to the Web, Publisher creates the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) files and other files needed to view your publication as a series of Web pages in a Web browser . But the pages will not be available to Web users until you place them on a Web server. In other words, you need a place to host your Web site before people browsing the Internet can see your pages.

Web Hosting

Creating a Web site is great (and easy with Publisher), but you still need a place to put it. That s where Web hosting comes in. A Web hosting company stores your Web pages on a server that is on the Internet, meaning that people browsing the Internet can access it. You create the pages and then upload them to the hosting company s server using tools they provide (typically a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program).

Your Internet service provider (ISP) might provide Web hosting ”in fact, your existing account might include some level of hosting service. Many other companies also provide hosting service ”some catering to small businesses, others serving large companies and corporations. Some even provide the service free of charge, but there are usually restrictions or special terms for that service. Be sure to check the fine print!

When researching Web hosting service providers, consider the cost of the service, the space and transfer limits, and the file transfer and account management tools used.
