One of the primary design goals of ADO.NET was to make it effective for use in disconnected Web-based applications. Nowhere is this more evident or appropriate than in the world of XML Web Services, where ADO.NET can be used to both return data through a Web service using a DataSet object and easily consume the data when using VS .NET as the client.
As we approach the end of the week and the end of this book, we'll look at a few final issues starting tomorrow by examining performance optimization and interoperating with ADO.
