Overview

Simple block formatting is often not enough to display your content properly. HTML tables offer a greater degree of control for placement of text and images through the use of rows and columns in fixed and relative widths. They are especially important when it comes to displaying dynamic data in Web applications.

Web pages have grown increasingly complex and the HTML table has become the tool of choice for the Web designer/developer. Although originally intended only for the display of raw data, tables offer other options, but such table tricks come with more than a few caveats — not all browsers render tables as suggested by the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) HTML 4.0 specifications.
