You can also make commands by writing your own JavaScript. The major functions in Fireworks are JavaScript-based; therefore they can be changed according to the way you work if you can write JavaScript code. This topic is beyond the scope of this book, but you can find out more about writing your own JavaScript commands at the Macromedia Web site (www.macromedia.com/ support/fireworks/extensibility.html).

Support for extending Fireworks has been sparse up until now. Fireworks MX enables developers to use an SWF interface for Fireworks extensibility. You'll see several of the new commands made with this method in the Commands folder. The Arrowheads, Image Fader, and Nav Bar Builder are just a few. Also the Align panel is made this way.
