One of the fastest growing areas of hardware is the realm of portable systems—everything from laptops to handheld computers. Just about everyone today who uses a portable system is using it for access to the Internet and their own convenience. The hardware used in portable systems has made tremendous advances in overcoming size and weight limitations.

The difficulty for the hardware technician is that many of the components used in a laptop are proprietary. Compatibility between laptop manufacturers is somewhat limited.
