Page Status

Depending on where a page is positioned in the publishing process, CMS assigns different statuses of ongoing publishing activity to the page. When editors or moderators revise the page, approve the page, or decline it, the status of the page changes. The page statuses maintained by CMS are as follows:

  • New: The status of a page when an author is inserting content into the placeholders, before the page is saved for the first time.

  • Saved: The status of a page after it has been saved, before the page is submitted for approval.

  • WaitingforEditorApproval: The status of a page after it has been submitted for approval but has not been approved by an editor. A page usually enters this state from the Saved state.

  • WaitingforModeratorApproval: The status of a page after it has been approved by the editor but has not been approved by a moderator. A page usually enters this state from the Waitingfor EditorApproval status, although there are some exceptions, which we will see shortly.

  • EditorDeclined: The status of a page after it has been declined by an editor, before it is modified and resubmitted by the page authors.

  • ModeratorDeclined: The status of a page after it has been declined by a moderator, before it has been modified and resubmitted.

  • Approved: The status of a page after it has been approved for publishing by a moderator but where the current time is less than the publishing start time of the page.

  • Expired: The status of a page after it has been approved by a moderator but where the current time is greater than the expiry time of the page.

  • Published: The status of a page after it has been approved by a moderator and where the current time is greater than the start time, but less than the expiry time of the page. This is the only state in which a page can be seen by site subscribers.

A page status is displayed in the Web Author console for the current page. Using the Production Manager, page creators can see the status of all pages they own (Figure 6-3).
