Chapter 4. Digital Photography Techniques

Shooting with a digital SLR isn't all that different from using any other camera, film or digital. If you're coming from the film world, you'll appreciate the immediate feedback you get from the LCD screen and the flexibility of changing ISO settings as needed for changing light conditions.

If you're coming from a compact digital camera (which I've been calling a digicam), you have an adjustment to make if you are used to using the LCD to compose your photos before capturing themwith one exception, dSLR cameras don't have a live preview on the LCD. Instead, you look through the camera's lens for a live preview.

In this chapter, I cover the common features you'll find in a dSLR, including metering, exposure adjustments, and composition.
