This appendix will give you an overview of XSL transformations so that you can write XSL stylesheets and apply them to XML documents in order to generate HTML files, SVG documents, or XML-based data. In most cases, an XSL stylesheet contains custom code in the sense that it is written for processing a particular XML document. As such, an XSL stylesheet contains custom templates that can also leverage built-in functions available in XSL in order to search, count, and manipulate some or all of the nodes in an associated XML document.
