Summary

This chapter focused on demonstrating how to write Perl and Unix shell scripts in order to generate SVG documents from text files. This chapter also contains an example of how you can write Perl scripts for generating SVG documents from text files that are based on a proprietary format. You saw examples of applying XSL stylesheets to XML files in order to generate SVG documents, one of which is an unadorned and basic bar chart. The XSLT appendix contains additional examples of bar charts, one of which renders horizontal and vertical axes and labels the elements of the bar chart.
