Using Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer is an easy-to-use application that simplifies the task of accessing and managing folders, files, applications, and resources. Windows Explorer can be used to manage local, network, or Internet resources. From Explorer, you can manage:

  • Floppy drives

  • Logical drives

  • CD-ROM drives

  • Control Panel

  • The Printers folder

  • The Dial-Up Networking folder

  • Network Resources

  • The Recycle Bin

Within Explorer, the left side of the dialog box shows you a hierarchical structure of all objects. The right side of the dialog box shows you details of the object that you have highlighted on the left side of the screen.

Through Explorer, you can manage objects by adding, deleting, or manipulating properties. You can also use drag-and-drop to copy or move objects within Explorer.

network drive

A mapping to a network path that appears to the user as a drive letter. You access it the same way that you access a local drive.

If your computer is connected to a network, you can also map network drives, which enables you to access network resources in the same way that you access a local resource on your C drive. You can also disconnect network drives.
