Summary


This chapter introduces the network administrator to the basic tools used for configuring and maintaining Cisco devices. These tools are part of the fundamental steps involved in the process of Cisco network administration. The network administrators should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Use MS-Windows and Linux-based tools to establish a console connection to Cisco devices

  • Use MS-Windows and Linux-based tools for Telnet and SSH connections to Cisco devices

  • Use Java-enabled web browsers to configure Cisco devices

  • Deploy MS-Windows and Linux-based TFTP and FTP servers to maintain configuration images and operating system images for Cisco devices
