Give Your Disc Image Its Own Drive Letter

Disc images are extremely useful because they take the contents of an entire CD and turn them into a single image file. Image files can be used in a variety of ways. They can be burned directly to a blank disc, turning it into a copy of the original CD. They can also be archived and transferred from one computer to another just like any other file. You can also use the Load Disc Image utility to mount a disc image as a virtual drive in the computer.

This task discusses how to use the Save Image utility to copy the entire contents of a CD into a disc image file.

Create a Disc Image from a CD

Launch Save Image to Hard Drive

Launch the Save Image to Hard Drive Wizard from the Roxio Creator Suite Home page by selecting Save Image from the Copy menu.

Insert Disc

After you have opened the Save Image to Hard Drive project, insert the CD or DVD you want to image into a drive.

Select Drive

After the disc has been inserted into a drive, select the drive from the source drop-down menu.

Set Destination and Image File Type

After you have selected the source drive, click the Browse button to bring up a file dialog box. Use the file dialog box to specify a destination location, a filename, and the disc image file type.

Save Image to Hard Drive

After you have specified the destination for the image file, click the Save button to save the image to disc.
