Summary

EAP allows for arbitrary methods to authenticate network access. EAP and EAP types are required for IEEE 802.1X based wireless authentication. Secure wireless access is obtained by using certificates with either EAP-TLS or PEAP-TLS, or passwords with PEAP-MS-CHAP v2. Windows 2000 (with Microsoft 802.1X Authentication Client), Windows XP (SP1 and later), Windows Server 2003 wireless clients, and IAS for Windows 2000 (with Microsoft 802.1X Authentication Client) and Windows Server 2003 support EAP-TLS, PEAP-TLS, and PEAP-MS-CHAP v2.
