Modify the Details View

Many accept the Details view as-is, but you can also display additional information about a file in the Details view. This might help you find a target file more quickly. For example, you might be working on a new product for your company, and there are several people developing documentation about that product. All of the files related to the product are stored in a single shared folder, and you want to quickly find all the documents that were written by your good friend, Brian Culp.

To find all the Documents he's authored, choose the View | Choose Details menu selections to open the Choose Details dialog box, as shown in Figure 7-3.

Figure 7-3. Adding helpful columns to the Details view.

Add the Author attribute and then click OK. Now you can go back to your Details view and sort the documents in the storage folder, easily gathering all that have been authored by Mr. Culp. Alternatively, you can right-click on one of the column headings and choose which details display using the ensuing shortcut menu.

Further, you can rearrange the order of the columns in the Details view. Select a detail from the list and then click the Move Up or the Move Down button.
