Transforming

Transforming

If you are transforming a layer or a selection (with either Free Transform or any of the transformation commands), you cannot perform any other operation until you've finished that transformation. So if you see menus grayed out, press Enter to lock in your transformation or press the Escape key to cancel the transformationthen you'll be able to continue.

How Much Feathering Do You Need?

Not sure how much to feather a selection? Try this: Press the letter Q with your selection in place to switch to Quick Mask mode to view your selection with a colored overlay. Then choose Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. It turns out that Gaussian Blur is virtually identical to feathering. Therefore, sampling different blur amounts will function as a preview of the feathering. Once you've decided on the amount of the blur/feather, click OK in the Gaussian Blur dialog and press Q to return to Standard mode. (Here the feathered selection was copied to a new layer and a new filled layer was added below.)
