Visual Inheritance and Custom Controls

Chapter 14

Visual Inheritance and Custom Controls

In this last chapter, I want to bring together many of the coding techniques and practices we've covered throughout this book. We'll cover some additional topics and build a sample program that illustrates how what we've learned comes together in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET.

We will first use our knowledge of object-oriented programming to inherit a standard class and that class's visual rendering as a form. We will then move on to build our own Microsoft .NET custom control. After that, we will bring all of our .NET knowledge together to write our final project, Sticky Notes, an electronic version of the ubiquitous and helpful tool for providing reminders and notes. We can stick these notes to our screen. When we finish with that program, we'll wrap up the book by writing an installation program that will enable you to deploy the Sticky Notes program to your friends.
