Choosing Proper Colors

graphics/troubleshooting_icon.jpg

I'm having trouble choosing colors. Can you give me some tips?

Colors are everywhere. Take a look at the purpose of the site. What type of images do you expect on the site? If it's a company site, start with the colors in the company logo. Look for brochures, signs, or business cards that have colors. If you don't have some basic colors to start from, select some colors from magazines or ads that look good together and use them.

Remember that with the Eye dropper tool described earlier, you can lift colors from anything you can get on your desktop.

Maintaining a Color Scheme

I'm working on some pages for events taking place around the holidays. How do I use the holiday colors and not mess up my color scheme?

If you have a color scheme established, don't be afraid to deviate on one or two pages. The holiday colors provide a great chance to add some variety to your pages. Try using small splashes of the holiday colors, or you can abandon your basic scheme for hot pink during Valentine's Day. Visitors will be understanding because they know it's only temporary, and they'll know you have a festive attitude.
