Strengths and Weaknesses

Some of the strengths of the WAS product are also its liabilities. With all of its flexibility and scope of functions, WAS is certainly complex and can be daunting to application developers and system support staff. Exercising its full range of functions can lead to difficulties in system administration and application maintenance. The performance of certain J2EE components , such as EJBs, is sensitive to the way in which WAS is configured and deployed, and it may take extensive application tuning to achieve good performance.

WAS, primarily a J2EE component platform by nature, lacks certain functions required by some applications, such as e-mail, workflow, and collaboration. Fortunately, these are precisely the strengths of the Domino product.
