Although you can use InDesign as your primary word processor, doing so is a little like buying an SUV for suburban errands ‚ glamorous but unnecessary. In publishing, at least the first draft of text is generally written in Microsoft Word because this word processing program offers many editorial bells and whistles. Text is then imported into an InDesign publication. If you prefer to type in style, you can use InDesign's basic word processing features for entering text. After text is in a publication, you can use InDesign's editing, search and replace functions, and spell checker to refine your content.
