Conclusion

In this chapter you learned that the ATL Server stencil processor provides a very flexible way of generating text content to any kind of media. You can easily use the stencil processor in any application by implementing the IWriteStream interface and creating a replacement handler class.

The CStencil class, which you can use outside of the ISAPI context of ATL Server, doesn t support a few replacement tags that may appear in the HTML projects. You can implement most of the unsupported replacement elements either by using tags with parameters or by inheriting from the CStencil object and enriching the stencil grammar.

One of the great things about ATL Server is that it was designed from the beginning to create high performance Web applications. There are, however, many things that a development team can do to ensure that their application will perform as they require. In the next chapter we take a high-level look at some of the performance tuning tips and tricks that the ATL Server team learned as they worked with internal and external development teams using ATL Server.
