task pane

A window frame that appears on the right side of the Excel program window and presents options for the task you are currently performing. If you select Insert, Picture, Clip Art, for instance, the Insert Clip Art task pane appears, providing options for searching for a specific image and inserting the image.



taskbar

The bar at the bottom of the Windows desktop that enables you to switch back and forth between applications or launch applications with the Start button.



template

A pattern for a workbook or worksheet that controls fonts, shading, borders, and other format settings for the worksheet. Templates can also contain macros and styles.



tick mark

A short line on a chart's axis, typically used to mark incremental values along the axis.



title bar

The colored band (typically dark blue) at the top of a program or workbook window that displays the program's name or the workbook's name (or both). On the right end of all title bars are the Minimize, Maximize/Restore, and Close buttons , used to control the window.



toolbar

A strip of buttons that usually appears at the top of an application's window just below the menu bar. With a toolbar, you can bypass the pull-down menus by clicking a button.



truncated

Chopped off at the end. When you type a wide entry into a cell , Excel typically runs the entry over the next cell to the right. However, if that cell contains an entry, Excel truncates the wide entry, displaying only the portion of the entry that fits in the cell.
