There are two methods for starting a GroupWise Agent on Linux, and you must know both methods. In fact, when you first install a GroupWise Agent, you must first start it in a somewhat manual fashion. We call this "initializing" the agent. Then, every time after the initialization of the agent, you can bring up the GroupWise Agent in the simpler manner explained earlier in this chapter. Namely, the simpler manner of loading a GroupWise Agent is to type a command similar to this: /etc/init.d/grpwise start MARKET. The purpose of "initializing" a GroupWise Agent is hard to convey without doing so in the form of a scenario. Here is our scenario: In our system there is a domain called MARKET that resides on a Linux server. We have just installed a GWIA onto the Linux server. Now we would cause the GWIA to come up by typing the command grpwise start, or grpwise start GWIA.MARKET. However, when we issue the command grpwise start, the script says that it's initializing @gwia. Kind of confusing! Here's what you must do to correct this problem:
After this, the syntax ../grpwise start will no longer give the message about @gwia. To load the GroupWise GWIA manually, do this:
