O

P

Paged pool

a based region that can be paged in and out of a process's working set. Each process has its own set of PTEs that map paged pool into its address space.

POST (Power-on Self-Test)

the POST routine is a set of tests intended to verify if the hardware functions correctly. If there are problems related to computer hardware or BIOS settings, POST will emit a series of beeps. POSTs are controlled by your computer's BIOS and may differ from machine to machine. Because of this, I recommend that you always have at hand the documentation supplied with your computer.

PDO

Physical Device Object. A device object created by a bus driver. A PDO represents the underlying bus driver in the stack of PnP drivers for a device. The PDO is at the bottom of the device stack of drivers for a device.

Power Policy

the set of rules that determine how and when a system or device changes power state.

Plug and Play (PnP)

Plug and Play is the set of specifications developed by Microsoft, Intel, Compaq, and other vendors. It represents a combination of the general approach to designing PCs and a set of specifications describing hardware architecture. All Plug and Play components are intended for the same general purpose: to provide automatic functioning of the PC, peripheral devices, and their drivers with minimum intervention from the user. Users who work with a system that meets all Plug and Play requirements don't need to worry if the newly installed device will cause hardware conflict with another device.

PnP Manager

the PnP Manager has two parts: the kernel-mode PnP Manager and the user-mode PnP Manager. The kernel-mode PnP Manager interacts with OS components and drivers to configure, manage, and maintain devices. The user-mode PnP Manager interacts with user-mode setup components, such as Class Installers, to configure and install devices. The user-mode PnP Manager also interacts with applications; for example, to register an application for notification of device changes and to notify the application when a device event occurs.

Power Manager

the Power Manager is a new Windows 2000 component, which is responsible for managing power usage for the system.
