Chapter 11: Applying the Integration Services Engine

Overview

In the last chapter, you explored the core Integration Services Engine. You will now focus on bridging the gap between understanding its features and designing a solution based on those features.

DTS in SQL Server 2000 provided great capabilities to move data from one place to another or from one format to another. In fact, many data-processing architectures built on DTS adopted this model. In moving from DTS to Integration Services, however, should you continue to use this model? Using the DTS-based architecture as a comparative model, you will explore new ways of thinking about data integration.

In addition to data-processing best practices, you will also touch on package optimization techniques. Rounding out the chapter, you will examine the Perfmon counters targeted at the Data Flow, define them, and list what to look for when monitoring.
