iPhoto: TRACKING DOWN UNUSED PHOTOS

If you use albums, here's a trick for quickly finding all the photos in your Library that you didn't think were good enough to wind up in one of your albums (in other words, this is a quick way to gather all the photos that didn't "make the cut" and delete them so they stop taking up space on your hard disk). Hold the Option key and click the plus (+) sign in the bottom left-hand corner (when you hold Option, it changes from a plus sign into a gear icon). This brings up the Smart Album dialog. In the first pop-up menu, choose Album. In the second menu choose Is Not, and in the third menu choose Any. When you click OK, it will create a new Smart Album made up of just the photos that didn't make the cut. Now, you can delete those photos knowing they won't disturb any of your existing albums.
