Chapter Review Questions

1:

We have a root/boot disk that is mirrored. Which of the disks should be assigned as the Primary Boot Path ? Will you be able to ascertain which disk your system has booted from when in multi- user mode?

2:

Something has happened to our non-mirrored root/boot disk. We have lost the HP-UX secondary loader. Is this disk still bootable? Can we boot an HP-UX kernel with the disk in its current configuration? Will a maintenance mode boot help in this situation? If not, how will we remedy the situation?

3:

The mkboot can rebuild our boot area if it becomes corrupt in any way. Previously, we had installed the Diagnostic subsystem, which included the Offline Diagnostic Environment ( ODE ) and other diagnostic tools that are stored in the LIF area. What will happen to the ODE and other tools if we use an mkboot command such as the following?

 # mkboot /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

Name three possible ways in which we can ensure that the ODE and other diagnostic tools are still available on this disk, but still recover the LIF area?

4:

With the Recovery Shell's " Recover an unbootable HP-UX system ", there is this option: " Do not rebuild the bootlif, but install files required to boot and recover HP-UX on the root file system ". We have selected this option and subsequently rebooted the system. Will the system boot to multi-user mode? If not, why not and what must we do to remedy the situation?

5:

On some newer servers there are three boot paths: Primary, High-Availability Alternate, and Secondary. Why do you think there are three boot paths instead of the original two, and why don't we have four or possibly five choices?
