Once you ve decided whether you will be embedding or linking files, you can place artwork in an open Illustrator file by choosing File Place. The Place dialog box opens. Navigate to the folder that contains your linked file.
When you select a new object for embedding or linking, the Link and Template check boxes become active in the Place dialog box, as shown in Figure 3-3. If you want to import your image as a linked file, select the Link check box.
A placed bitmap will look like any other vector object on your artboard . You can move it and apply many effects and filters.
Note | The Template check box in the Place dialog box will import your image as a non-printing, non-editable template layer. This feature is discussed later in this chapter in the Use an Imported Bitmap as a Non-printing Tracing Layer section. |
