Introduction

In this chapter, we look at simple socket-based applications in Ruby using the BSD Sockets API and Ruby’s derivative helper classes. These applications can serve as implemented software patterns for the construction of more advanced networking applications.

All software discussed here is also provided on the companion CD-ROM. Table 20.1 lists the applications and their locations on the CD-ROM.
